Ontrack SystemSuite 4.0 comes the closest to providing all the utilities you need in a single, tightly integrated package. And each component has the breadth and depth youd expect from standalone packages.
From the main panel of the suites control center, a set of customizable single-click wizards clean, optimize, and repair the system, while nine other panels control the firewall, antivirus, optimization, diagnostic, repair, recovery, uninstall, cleanup, and ZIP features. Except for a rescue disk feature, which works only on Microsoft Windows 98 and Me, everything in the package works well on all recent versions of Windows. The installation CD also includes Ontracks PowerDesk Pro, a very good third-party Windows Explorer replacement.
The installation program respects your intelligence by loading memory-resident components such as firewall and antivirus software only when you ask for them. It doesnt automatically detect whether you already have an antivirus program installed, for example, but this isnt a problem, since you have complete control over what is installed and turned on. On our tests, the installation CD was up to date, so the automatic updater downloaded only new virus definitions.
